Class 5B
LMTW
In LMTW the whole school is learning about conflict through different historical topics. Our unit is called 'You're Not Invited'. This is a thematic unit, based around invaders with a key focus on history. We will begin by looking at the concept of invasion, before focusing especially on the Romans, learning about important Roman figures and their reasons for invading other countries. We will also learn about sources of evidence and their reliability.
Key Vocabulary :
Maths
In maths this half-term we start by looking at the formal methods of multiplication and division. This will include short and long multiplication as well as short division. After this, we will revisit fractions and look at tenths, hundredths and thousandths and how this knowledge can help when comparing or finding equivalent fractions. Finally, this half-term, we will focus on angles. Looking at, recognising, estimating and measuring them.
English
In reading we are still enjoying 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell.
In writing we are using the wonderful picture book 'The Arrival' by Shaun Tan to help with our two units. The first is a fiction narrative with a focus on setting descriptions and dialogue. Secondly, we will be looking at letters again and writing a series of them home from the viewpoint of the main character from 'The Arrival'.
